Please join us for a traditional meal of Cod (Torsk) and a few glasses of aquavit as we welcome John Eason, Career Lecturer in Modern Languages and Cultural Studies (MLCS) at the University of Alberta, for an illustrated presentation on Norwegian cinema. The talk offers an accessible overview of Norwegian film as both an industry and a cultural form, introducing major periods, influential filmmakers, and notable films from the early twentieth century to the present.
John teaches Swedish and Norwegian at beginner and intermediate levels and regularly offers courses in Scandinavian literature, culture, and film, including Scandinavian Cinema, which he is teaching this semester. His work focuses on teaching Nordic language and culture in ways that are engaging, clear, and culturally grounded.
